Leahy Notices Confirmation Hearing For Associate Attorney General, Solicitor General Nominees

WASHINGTON (Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009) – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on Tuesday noticed a hearing to consider the nominations Thomas Perrelli to be the Associate Attorney General, the number three position at the Department of Justice, and Elena Kagan to be the Solicitor General of the United States.  Perrelli and Kagan will appear before the Committee on February 10, at 10:00 a.m.

The Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing Thursday on the nomination of David W. Ogden to be the Deputy Attorney General of the United States.  On Tuesday morning, Eric Holder was sworn into office as the 82nd Attorney General of the United States after the Senate voted overwhelmingly Monday night to confirm his nomination.

President Obama announced on January 5 that he intended to nominate Perrelli and Kagan.  Perrelli is a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General and the managing partner of Jenner & Block in Washington, D.C.  Kagan is the dean of Harvard Law School.

The nominees’ completed bipartisan, Committee questionnaires and related documents are available online.  The hearing will be webcast live.

The Senate Committee on the Judiciary has scheduled a hearing on the nomination of Elena Kagan to be Solicitor General of the United States Department of Justice and Thomas J. Perrelli to be Associate Attorney General of the United States Department of Justice for Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 226 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.
