Leahy-Chaired Panel Reports Vermont Nominee To Senate Floor
Judge Sessions Nominated To Chair Sentencing Commission
A panel chaired by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) Thursday reported the nomination of Judge William K. Sessions, III, to be the Chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission to the full Senate for consideration. Judge Sessions is a member of the Sentencing Commission. President Obama nominated him to Chair the Commission on April 20.
Sessions is a federal judge on the Vermont District Court, where he has served since 1995. He was first appointed to the U.S. Sentencing Commission in 1999.
Leahy said, “Judge Sessions is a fellow Vermonter who has served the Commission with honor for nearly 10 years, first as a Commissioner and then as a Vice Chair. I know him well, and I am confident that he will meet this new challenge. I hope the Senate will quickly confirm his nomination.”
The nomination will be reported to the full Senate for consideration.
