Judiciary Committee Sends Three Judicial Nominees To Full Senate
Panel Also Approves Nominee To Serve As Drug Policy Director
WASHINGTON (Thursday, December 11, 2014) – The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday unanimously approved three judicial nominees who now go to the full Senate for consideration. Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) urged the Senate to take up and pass all pending nominations before the end of the year.
“It is imperative for the Senate to continue to work on nominations. With cooperation there is still time to confirm these non-controversial nominees before we adjourn for the year,” Leahy said.
The district court nominees approved Thursday to fill vacancies in Virginia, North Carolina and New York—which is an emergency vacancy—now join nine other judicial nominees pending on the Senate floor. Three of those nominees already pending on the executive calendar would fill emergency vacancies in Texas, the longest running of which has been vacant for more than six years.
“I hope that at the very least, the Texas senators will work to get consent on their side of the aisle to confirm the three district court nominees to fill judicial emergency vacancies pending on the Executive Calendar,” Leahy said. “These Texas nominees were nominated more than five months ago and reported out on unanimous voice vote. There is no objection on my side of the aisle to confirming them today.”
The Committee also approved the nomination of Michael Botticelli to serve as Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). His nomination was approved on a voice vote.
Results of the meeting can be found online.
