Further Comments Of Senator Patrick Leahy On The FairPoint Labor Impasse
I am encouraged to see that FairPoint, IBEW, and CWA have responded positively to the meeting requested by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS), scheduled to convene in Boston on November 18. Hopefully the exploratory nature of this meeting, as part of the FMCS process, will present an opportunity for the parties to re-engage in dialogue.
Thousands of Vermonters and customers throughout New England rely on FairPoint for their businesses, residential, and emergency services. Customers, workers, friends, and neighbors are affected by this standoff. A lengthy impasse benefits no one.
In our tradition of acknowledging our differences and working to resolve our problems in a respectful manner, I am pleased to see the parties have agreed to meet in Boston.
