Comment On Immigration Reform

“Last week, Senators Schumer and Graham met with the President to discuss the progress they have made toward introduction of an immigration reform bill.  Like President Obama, I look forward to reviewing that legislation.  Last year, at the beginning of this Congress, I called for Congress to enact legislation consistent with our history as a nation of immigrants.  Those who oppose a realistic solution to address the estimated millions of people currently living and working in the United States without proper documentation have offered no alternative solution other than unworkable penalties and more enforcement.  I am confident that our country and our economy will be far more secure when those who are currently living in the shadows of our society are recognized and provided the means to earn lawful status.  I will continue to work with Senator Schumer, Senator Graham, and all those on both sides of the aisle who will work with us.  Once a bill is introduced and we have had an opportunity to review it, I will work with the Senate leadership and the President to determine the best way in which to proceed.”
