[BREAKING] Leahy REAX To FCC Vote Approving The NET NEUTRALITY RULE –

(Rule Was Approved In An FCC Vote Of 3 to 2)

“Today’s FCC vote shows that Vermont commonsense can win the day, even in Washington.  Over the last year Vermonters have spoken loudly and clearly.  They do not want to be stuck in Internet slow lanes or to cope with new online tolls.  Vermonters expect an Internet that remains equal and open to all.  As Cabot Orton of the Vermont Country Store testified at the hearing I held in Burlington last July, Vermont small businesses are not looking for special treatment online, they are simply looking for the certainty of a level playing field. The FCC’s action is a major victory for Vermonters and Vermont businesses that ensures that the Internet remains an open and dynamic platform for economic opportunity and free speech.”

[Leahy is the author and chief Senate sponsor of the leading net neutrality bill in Congress (chief House sponsor is Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Calif.).  The net neutrality provisions of the FCC-approved net neutrality rule reflect provisions in Leahy’s bill.  Leahy also held Judiciary Committee hearings on net neutrality, including a Judiciary Committee field hearing in Vermont, in July 2014.]
