Appropriations Vice Chair Patrick Leahy, On Introduction Today Of Senate Democrats’ Jobs And Infrastructure Plan
The Trump infrastructure plan falls far short of what is needed to address our crumbling infrastructure. Instead of making real investments in roads, bridges and broadband, the President conjures up an illusory plan that would be funded on the backs of working Americans, by raising new Trump Tolls.
It’s smoke and mirrors. And it is made worse by a Trump budget that would cut transportation, housing, and urban development programs by 29 percent.
We need real, direct investments in our infrastructure that do not leave Rural America behind. In Rural America, toll roads and bridges won’t be any more appealing to private investors than they are to drivers and businesses.
Today we are proposing an historic $1 trillion investment in the American people, in our communities, in our economy, and in America’s future. Our plan is powered by real investments, not by flimflam and fumes.
Our plan does not rely on Trump Tolls that would line the pockets of wealthy developers. It does not force the burden on already cash-strapped states. This is a REAL investment in our infrastructure. An investment that makes infrastructure the priority that it needs to be. These are workable plans that will create millions of jobs and bring our infrastructure into the 21st Century.
