Keynote Speaker Corinne Prevot

WEOC 2018 Keynote Speaker

Founder, Skida Headwear and Accessories

In 2008, Vermont skier and design-enthusiast Corinne Prevot picked up some fabric and made the first Skida hats for her Burke Mountain Academy teammates and friends.  The demand for the teenager’s colorful hats snowballed beyond the ski racing community as new prints and styles joined the line.

She continued producing the hats from her dorm room while attending Middlebury College, during which time she launched “Skida Plus One,” a donation program that provides hats to patients undergoing chemotherapy.  A study abroad program in Kathmandu, Nepal introduced Corinne to a localized cashmere industry, from which she sources her own luxury cashmere designs direct from the manufacturer.

Today, Skida headwear and accessories are sold through nearly 300 retailers and has more than 21,000 direct customers. The Burlington-based business employs seven people, primarily women. And last year, Corinne was named to the Forbes’ 2018 “30 Under 30 List” that recognizes the “best young makers and industrial innovators” in manufacturing under the age of 30.

Corinne continues to grow the Burlington-based company, funding all growth capital from operating cash flow, thereby remaining debt-free and independent.

“We’ve been really lucky to grow the business here,” Corinne told Outside magazine in a recent profile. “The community in Vermont is very receptive to a locally made product, and our story draws people in.”

We look forward to hearing more from Corinne Prevot at the 22nd Annual Women’s Economic Opportunity Conference.
