The U.S. Constitution -- Valuing Civic Participation
A Public Discussion With Two Supreme Court Justices
On October 5, 2011, Senator Leahy chaired a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee focused on the role of the federal judiciary under the Constitution of the United States. Senator Leahy invited two of the nation’s top jurists, Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer and Antonin Scalia, to testify.
Supreme Court Justices rarely return to the Senate Judiciary Committee to testify following the confirmation hearings traditionally held by the Committee. During this rare appearance before Congress, Justice Breyer and Justice Scalia testified about the role of judges in our democracy.
The Committee’s recent hearing was both interesting and informative. Senator Leahy believes that public discussions like this hearing serve our democracy, and he invites you to watch this historic hearing.
