Air
Clean air is essential to human health. However, some of the biggest threats to Vermont’s air quality stem from industry in neighboring states and many others hundreds of miles away. Air pollutants from across the nation circulate into Vermont, threatening the state’s scenic beauty and lowering the air quality for Vermonters. Senator Leahy supports federal legislation to curb air pollution, recognizing that a nationwide approach is necessary to protect Vermont’s environment.
Senator Leahy joined the United States Senate shortly after the adoption of the Clean Air Act, and since that time, he has seized every opportunity to defend against any attempt to weaken the law. Today, he continues this mission as he looks for ways to regulate greenhouse gases and invest in renewable energy.
