Supreme Court
The Supreme Court is the Nation’s highest court, and is comprised of eight Associate Justices and one Chief Justice. Like all Article III Federal judges, Supreme Court Justices serve lifetime appointments on the Court. Decisions by the Supreme Court can have far-reaching effects, and Senator Leahy has chaired many committee hearings about the impact of several of these decisions on every day Americans.
Senator Leahy has participated in the confirmation process for each of the current Justices on the Supreme Court, and has cast votes on the nominations of more than a dozen Supreme Court Justices. As the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Leahy plays and important leadership role in the confirmation process for Supreme Court nominees.
More information about the confirmation process, the Supreme Court, and nominations, visit the Senate Judiciary Committee’s website.
